Five police officers were reportedly killed and another one was wounded when unknown gunmen attacked a police car on Saturday.

Media reports said eight other people were killed in the city earlier on Saturday. Two of them were reportedly beheaded.

Police officials were quoted as saying the dead had fallen victims to turf-wars of local criminal groups.

Media reports said the Saturday violence was the deadliest in Acapulco in recent years.

Crime is among the most urgent concerns facing Mexico, with drag trafficking being the country"s major woe. Hundreds of people are being killed annually by drug mafia in the Latin American state.

Acapulco, a major Mexican tourist resort some 300 kilometers (190 miles) southwest from the country"s capital, has seen bloody infighting between rival drug cartels of late.
